MenoChick – Your Menopause Resource

Welcome

I am glad you are here. I decided to create this out of my own experience and all of the women in my life, and those I’ve witnessed online. Menopause was never something I was told I needed to take seriously. In fact, it seemed like something to go through and get over without any thought about it.

Unfortunately, as with most healthcare, there was very little to consensus on the kind of issues that were related to menopause and what to do about them. I think we are all familiar with the Women’s Health Initiative in 2002. The media got a hold of some preliminary findings based on a group of women who were studied that had a wide range of age and physical health to begin with, which was not taken into account.

At this point, there are studies and several doctors who advocate for hormone replacement therapy starting in perimenopause. Is it right for you? That is your decision and hopefully, you have a doctor educated in all things menopause. It has taken me a ton of research and more than one doctor to figure out my menopause journey. When I went through perimenopause, it lasted for years. I remember “one day,” literally one day I had hot flashes all afternoon and then did not have any for at least 6-7 years. And then going through menopause, I could no longer wear long sleeved anything without feeling like I was suffocating no matter what time of day it was!

Hot flashes went on waaaaaay past menopause, basically 5 years post-menopause it hadn’t receded for long. I would think, “wow, no hot flashes today!” And then have night sweats that evening. Along with horrible sleep, gastrointestinal issues, some hair loss, dry, itchy skin (sagging skin), weight gain (despite working out since I was 18 and eating fairly well), brain fog, vaginal dryness (loss of drive), heart palpitations, mood changes and MIGRAINES.

I’ve been able to change some of these issues/symptoms, but its been work. My goal is to make this site a one-stop shop, so you aren’t looking like I was at 1 a.m. suffering from a series of heart palpitations wondering if I was having a heart attack and searching online desperately looking for other women (menopause boards) and medical professionals to get some answers.

If you have questions, or want me to write on a topic, you can email me at [email protected]. Stay tuned and welcome!
